Troubles Formatting Emails in clubbroadCast?

7/4/2012

A common frustration amongst clubbroadCast (cbC) users is formatting content within the clubbroadCast HTML editor. Whether it’s changing font styles, such as color or type, or moving content around within the editor, it is easy to achieve undesired results. Most formatting issues stem from copying and pasting content from outside sources – such as desktop publishing software – into HTML format. In addition, many users continue to re-use email messages which may leave traces bad HTML coding within your emails. The following are tips to help prevent problems formatting emails.

Always Create New Email Messages

It’s easy to edit an existing weekly or monthly newsletter email message, make the changes needed, save it and send it out to your contacts. The problem is continuous changes to an email message through the HTML editor may cause formatting problems in the future. This is more so a problem when reusing email messages in in conjunction with copying and pasting content from outside sources. To minimize the impact of re-using emails, we recommend copying email messages. For example, if the club was sending a weekly email newsletter to all contacts it may be easier to continue editing the same email message and delivering it every week. It would be best to copy the previous email message
within Messages > Email Message using the copy feature. Check the email message you would like to copy and select the ‘Copy’ button at the top of the list of messages.

Copying Content From Other Sources – Pasting Plain Text

It’s always best practice to limit the content that is copied and pasted from outside sources into your email messages. Creating a message and typing the message from within the email editor will always provide the best results when trying to format and arrange your message. Copying from outside sources can always lead to problems when migrating or converting content from two platforms. For instance, Microsoft Word will have its own methods of formatting content – some of which cannot be easily converted to HTML when pasting into cbC (emails are built in HTML). This is the primary
cause of formatting problems within clubbroadCast.

When pasting content into the editor it is important to paste the content as plain text. This strips any word formatting from your content and keeps just the text in your email message, allowing you to properly format your text and other content using the email editor. To paste as plain text, copy your content from the original source, click the Paste as Plain Text icon on the top of the cbC email editor (fifth button on the left) which will turn on Paste as Plain Text, and paste your content using ctrl-V on your keyboard or right click and hit ‘Paste’ on the pop-up context menu.
