Suppression List

The suppression list consists of email addresses that can not be added to your account and cannot receive messages from you. The suppression list can be a very useful tool for excluding email addresses from receiving your messages. There are various reasons why you might need to exclude certain email addresses from being added to your account, with the most common being to honor the request of people who have opted-out from receiving messages from you.

Understanding And Adding Contacts To The Suppression List 

The suppression list consists of email addresses that can not be added to your account and cannot receive messages from you. The suppression list can be a very useful tool for excluding email addresses from receiving your messages. There are various reasons why you might need to exclude certain email addresses from being added to your account, with the most common being to honor the request of people who have opted-out from receiving messages from you.

Why Use The Suppression List

The most easily realized benefit of using the suppression list is improved sender and delivery ratings. For example, lets say your suppression list consists of email addresses that have continually bounced, and email addresses that have opted-out from receiving messages from you. Because these email addresses are on the suppression list, that means they can no longer receive messages from you. Because they are no longer receiving your messages, that means a decrease in bounced messages and complaints generated by angry people who do not want to receive messages from you. A decrease in bounces and complaints means an increase in both sender and delivery rating for your account! Additionally, having these email addresses on the suppression list ensures that they will not receive messages from you, even if they are accidentally added to your account via a contact add or a list import.

Note - When an email address is added to the suppression list, you will not be able to send to, import, or add the email address to your account. If the email address belongs to one of your contacts, that contact will be deleted from your account and you will not be able send to, import, or add them to your account. In order to add an email address on the suppression list to your account, you will need to first remove the email address from the suppression list, and then add or import it again. Additionally, as soon as you add a contact to the suppression list that was already in your account, they will be suppressed immediately (i.e. you won't be able to send to them or add them as a contact). However, it may take up to 24 hours for the contact to actually be deleted from your account.

Note - If a person who is on the suppression list attempts to sign-up to receive message from you via an Add Contacts webform or via direct add, they will not be added as a contact in your account and they will not be able to receive messages from you as long as they appear on the suppression list.

Adding An Email Address To The Suppression List
 

 

To add an email address to the Suppression List:
  1. Go to Contacts->Suppression List.
  2. Click the Add Email Addresses.
  3. Type the email address(es) you wish to add in the Email Address(es) text box. If you are adding multiple email addresses, put each new email address on a separate line.
  4. Click Add to add the email address(es) to the suppression list.

Adding An Entire List To The Suppression List

To add a list to the suppression list:

Note - When you remove an email address from the suppression list, all of the restrictions put in place by the suppression list are removed. This means that you can send messages to that email address and they can be added to your account. Make sure to once again get the approval of the contact to send messages to them via a subscription confirmation when you remove them from the Suppression List.

  1. Go to Contacts->Suppression Lists.
  2. Click Add Email Addresses.
  3. Click Choose File.
  4. Choose the list you want to add to the suppression list.
  5. Click Choose.
  6. Click Add.

Deleting An Email Address From The Suppression List

To Delete an email address from the Suppression List:

  1. Go to Contacts->Suppression List.
  2. Click the checkbox next to the email address(es) you want to delete.
  3. Click Delete.
  4. Click Delete on the confirmation page to finalize the deletion of the email address(es).
